Once in the bathroom he removed his handcuffs, ran across the highway, climbed a fence and took off into the woods.
The police were soon on his trail with dogs. He managed to steal a pickup-truck but dumped it and then took a semi-truck cab in Georgia. Chris Gay realized he was never going to see his mom. The Police had surrounded her home, dogs were barking.

He turns on the TV and finding no news about his location, he makes a plan. When he approached the Daytona entry, State troopers were everywhere. The trooper gave him a card to hang in his window and waved him through. A second officer escorted him to the VIP parking area.
